Takyi Arhin Backs Possible Third Term for Kurt Okraku Amid Resignation Calls

Takyi Arhin Backs Possible

Aduana FC General Manager Takyi Arhin has pledged his support for a possible third-term bid by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, despite mounting criticism over the Black Stars’ performances.

Arhin, popularly known as “Thunder”, said Okraku’s record of supporting domestic clubs deserved recognition, arguing that dissatisfaction with the national team should not overshadow the administration’s wider work.

Speaking on Sporty FM, he maintained that club officials remained strongly supportive of the GFA president because of the financial and logistical assistance provided under his leadership.

Arhin cited support packages of GH¢1 million for Premier League clubs and GH¢120,000 for Division One sides, alongside the provision of footballs, boots, jerseys and free fuel coupons.

“As football clubs and football administrators, we’re so much in love with Kurt Okraku for everything he’s done for us,” he said.

His endorsement comes as prominent football figures, including former GFA chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, call for Okraku to resign.

The criticism has intensified following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and a difficult start to the 2027 qualifying campaign. Defeats to Ivory Coast and The Gambia have left the Black Stars bottom of Group C without a point, with the team surrendering a two-goal advantage in the 4–2 home loss to The Gambia.

Arhin nevertheless dismissed the prospects of those seeking to challenge Okraku, describing such an attempt as an “exercise in futility”. He insisted that the backing of domestic football administrators remained a significant source of support for the incumbent.

Okraku first won the GFA presidency in 2019 and secured re-election in 2023. Discussion of a possible third term remains speculative, with Okraku previously indicating that it was premature to make a decision while he still had substantial time left in his current mandate.
