President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that discussions are currently underway to revive the Komenda Sugar Factory as part of efforts to boost local industrialisation and create employment opportunities.
Speaking during his tour of the Central Region on Saturday, June 27, President Mahama said his administration is committed to restoring the factory to full operation after years of inactivity.
According to the President, the government is engaging strategic partners and stakeholders to find a sustainable solution that will bring the factory back to life, improve sugar production, and support the livelihoods of sugarcane farmers in the area.
“The Komenda Sugar Factory remains a valuable national asset. We are holding talks to ensure it is revived and operated efficiently for the benefit of the people and the country’s economy,” President Mahama stated.
The President noted that reviving the factory forms part of the government’s broader agenda to strengthen local manufacturing, reduce dependence on imported sugar, and stimulate economic growth through agro-processing.
Residents and local leaders welcomed the announcement, expressing hope that the revival of the factory would generate jobs, boost business activities, and contribute significantly to the development of the Central Region.
The Komenda Sugar Factory, commissioned to process locally grown sugarcane, has faced prolonged operational challenges since its establishment, leaving many stakeholders calling for decisive action to restore its operations.
