A 35-year-old commercial taxi driver has been found dead inside his vehicle at Dahu Junction, between Kotwi and Nkoranza in the Atwima Kwanwoma District of Ghana’s Ashanti Region.
The deceased has been identified by relatives and residents as Kwabena Awuah, popularly known in the community as “Asawado.” His body was reportedly discovered inside a taxi bearing registration number AW 2458-20.
Events preceding the discovery
According to preliminary accounts from relatives, Awuah had a disagreement with his wife at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Several hours later, at approximately 11:00 p.m., he reportedly informed neighbors that he was leaving home to work the night shift.
It remains unclear what happened after he departed. Local accounts suggest the incident may have occurred around midnight, but investigators have not yet established the precise time or circumstances of his death.
Awuah was reportedly found shirtless and with signs of suspected physical injury. The condition of the body raised concerns that he may have been assaulted, although an autopsy and police investigation will be required to determine the cause of death.
Police begin investigations
Police officers from the Brofoyedru Division responded after receiving a distress call from the community. They secured and processed the scene before conveying the body to a mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination.
Investigators are expected to interview relatives, neighbors and people who may have seen Awuah during his final night shift. They may also examine his movements, communications and any physical evidence recovered from the vehicle.
No arrests have been announced, and the motive remains unknown. Authorities have also not linked the earlier domestic disagreement to Awuah’s death.
The incident has left residents of Kotwi-Nkoransa and surrounding communities in shock, with many calling for a thorough investigation. Police are expected to provide further details as their inquiries progress.
