Three Killed, 15 Injured in Fatal Head-On Collision on Kumasi-Accra Highway

Three people lost their lives while 15 others sustained injuries following a devastating head-on collision on the Kumasi-Accra Highway near Juaso in the Ashanti Region on Monday, July 13, 2026.

The fatal crash involved a heavy truck and a commercial passenger van, prompting a swift response from emergency services and local residents.

Crash Occurred Near Juaso

The accident occurred at approximately 9:39 a.m. along the section of the Kumasi-Accra Highway popularly known as the “Three-Lane,” close to the NEXT BON Gas Station in Juaso.

According to preliminary reports, the collision involved a clinker-loaded truck with registration number GN 9673-25, driven by Stephen Amankwah, and a Dongfeng commercial van bearing registration number GM 4002-26, driven by Nyame Ebenezer.

The impact of the crash left both vehicles extensively damaged.

Three Die at the Scene

A total of 18 people were involved in the collision. Two men and one woman were pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining fatal injuries.

The remaining 15 occupants suffered injuries ranging from minor to severe.

Residents Join Rescue Efforts

Before emergency personnel arrived, residents and eyewitnesses rushed to the scene to rescue victims trapped inside the wreckage. Their efforts helped free both drivers and 13 injured passengers from the mangled vehicles.

The injured were stabilized and transported to the Juaso Government Hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.

Fire Service Recovers Bodies

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), drawn from the Konongo-Odumase and Juaso Fire Stations, later secured the accident scene and carried out the recovery operation.

Firefighters extricated the bodies of the deceased from the wreckage before handing them over to officers of the Juaso District Police for preservation and further investigations.

Police Launch Investigation

Police have commenced investigations to determine the cause of the fatal crash.

Although the exact circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation, preliminary attention is expected to focus on traffic movement and road conditions along the notorious “Three-Lane” section of the Kumasi-Accra Highway, which has witnessed several serious accidents over the years.

Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations to help reduce accidents on the busy highway.
