Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has paid an emotional tribute to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu as she celebrates her 66th birthday on September 21, 2026.
In a personal message released by the State House, the President described his wife as his closest friend and confidante, praising the patience, courage and grace she has demonstrated throughout their years together.
Addressing her affectionately as “Oluremi mi,” Tinubu drew on a Yoruba proverb which describes a good wife as her husband’s crown. He said the First Lady had given practical meaning to the saying through her devotion to their marriage and family.
The President recalled how she stood beside him during difficult periods when their future was uncertain, sharing burdens that were originally his and supporting him through prayer.
Tinubu also praised his wife for giving him honest advice. He said she often recognized when he needed counsel before he asked and usually waited until they were alone to tell him difficult truths after demanding days.
Reflecting on their long marriage, the President said many of their private sacrifices were unknown to the public. He noted that laughter, prayer and lengthy conversations helped them navigate challenging decisions and uncertain periods.
“If life returned me to the beginning, I would choose the same road that led me to you,” Tinubu wrote.
The President also commended the First Lady’s commitment to their children and grandchildren, saying her faith, prayers and kindness had left a lasting impression on their family.
Beyond her family responsibilities, Tinubu recognized her public service and humanitarian work. He recalled her activities through the New Era Foundation during their years in Lagos and her continuing interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative.
According to the President, her programs have supported young people, widows, older citizens and women farmers across Nigeria. He also praised her advocacy for people affected by tuberculosis and other illnesses.
The Renewed Hope Initiative undertakes programs in agriculture, education, healthcare, economic empowerment and social investment, with a focus on vulnerable families and communities.
Tinubu concluded his message by thanking the First Lady for the life and family they had built together. He prayed that God would grant her many more years of good health, happiness and joy.
