President Bola Tinubu has rejected speculation about his health, declaring himself “healthy, sound, and ready to go” after returning to Nigeria from an extended stay in Europe.
Speaking to journalists at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, Tinubu dismissed claims that his trip involved emergency medical treatment.
“Rumors will always be emanating from politics, but the facts remain I’m here. Healthy, sound, and ready to go,” he said.
The President also described himself as “ready to kick, ready to walk,” insisting that nothing was wrong with him and expressing his readiness to resume official engagements.
Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for a scheduled three-week annual leave covering London and Paris. His stay extended to approximately four weeks, drawing criticism from opposition figures and fueling questions about his prolonged absence.
The African Action Congress challenged the circumstances of the extended trip, including an alleged failure to formally notify the National Assembly. The dispute added to public debate over the President’s management of official responsibilities while outside the country.
Throughout his absence, the Presidency maintained that Tinubu remained engaged in government business. Presidential officials argued that communication technology enabled him to oversee state affairs and remain in contact with officials from abroad.
His remarks on arrival directly addressed the health speculation that had accompanied the extension of his visit.
According to Voice of Nigeria, Tinubu is expected to resume full official duties, including leading activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Anniversary on October 1.
