The U.S. Embassy in Accra will temporarily suspend most routine consular, passport, and visa services from Monday, July 20, to Friday, July 31, 2026, due to scheduled facility maintenance.
The Embassy has announced that normal operations and routine appointments are expected to resume on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Services Temporarily Suspended
During the maintenance period, several routine consular services will be unavailable, including:
- Regular visa appointments: Interviews and standard in-person appointments for both immigrant and non-immigrant visas will be paused.
- Passport appointments: Routine passport-related in-person services will be suspended.
- Walk-in consular services: Walk-in requests for notary services and the processing of Consular Reports of Death Abroad (CRODA) will not be available during the closure period.
Services That Will Continue
Despite the temporary suspension, some services will remain operational.
Passport Renewals Through Drop Box
Adult passport renewals submitted through the official U.S. Embassy Ghana Drop Box system will continue to be processed during the maintenance period.
Collection of Completed Documents
Individuals who have already received official notification that their documents are ready for collection may still pick them up.
This includes passports and Consular Reports of Birth Abroad (CRBA), with collection available on Thursdays between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Emergency Support for U.S. Citizens
Emergency assistance will remain available for U.S. citizens facing urgent, life-threatening situations.

Applicants Advised to Monitor Updates
The U.S. Embassy has encouraged applicants to regularly check official embassy communication channels for any changes to schedules, service availability, or operational updates.
Applicants with pending appointments or consular needs are advised to plan accordingly and make arrangements ahead of the resumption of normal services on August 3, 2026.
