UAE and Egypt Deepen Economic Cooperation in Ports, Logistics and Digital Finance

United Arab Emirates and Egypt

The United Arab Emirates and Egypt are strengthening their economic partnership through new investments and joint initiatives in maritime infrastructure, financial technology and regional trade.

The latest wave of cooperation seeks to connect North Africa’s major commercial corridors with Gulf financial markets. Egypt, widely regarded alongside South Africa as one of Africa’s leading economies, offers UAE investors access to a large domestic market and a strategic location linking Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

Maritime logistics and port infrastructure remain central to the partnership. Global operators such as DP World are targeting opportunities within the Suez Canal Economic Zone, where Egypt is working to expand port capacity, improve terminal operations and develop more efficient supply chains.

These investments are intended to reinforce Egypt’s position as a major global trade and transshipment hub. Improving cargo-handling facilities and transportation connections around the Suez Canal could also attract manufacturers and logistics companies seeking faster access to African, European and Middle Eastern markets.

Cooperation is also expanding into financial technology and digital services. Cross-border integration involving Egypt’s Sahel digital platform is expected to provide Egyptian expatriates living in the UAE with secure electronic options for paying bills, managing services and completing financial transactions.

The initiative reflects growing efforts by both countries to modernize payment systems and strengthen their digital economies. It could also help reduce transaction delays and improve access to essential financial services for Egyptians abroad.

The partnership forms part of a broader economic strategy through which Gulf sovereign funds and state-backed companies are expanding their investments across North and sub-Saharan Africa.

By combining the UAE’s financial strength with Egypt’s geographical importance and extensive trade connections, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Cairo are seeking to build more resilient commercial networks and reduce their exposure to global supply-chain disruptions.

The cooperation could ultimately strengthen Egypt’s role as a gateway for Gulf investment into Africa while giving UAE businesses a larger foothold in regional logistics, finance and infrastructure.
