The University of Ghana (UG) has directed undergraduate students who obtained a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) below 1.00 at the end of the 2025/2026 academic year to withdraw from their programmes of study.
The directive was announced by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate in a notice published on Facebook on Thursday, October 22.
According to the Directorate, the decision is in line with Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017), which sets out the academic requirements students must meet to progress to the next level.
Under the regulation, undergraduate students are required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00 and satisfy the academic requirements of their respective schools or departments to qualify for academic progression.
The Directorate explained that the university’s regulations do not provide for academic probation in such cases. Students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 after all grades for their registered courses have been released will therefore be required to withdraw from their programmes.
The university has advised affected students to check their academic standing through the Management Information System (MIS) Web before starting the withdrawal process.
Students are required to log in to the Student and Staff Portal (STS) at sts.ug.edu.gh/services using their Student ID and PIN.
After logging in, they should select the “Withdrawal Request” option to initiate the process.
In its notice, the Academic Affairs Directorate stated: “Affected students are to check their CGPAs on the MIS Web, log in to the STS Portal (sts.ug.edu.gh/services) with their Student ID and PIN and select ‘Withdrawal Request’ to initiate the process.”
