A joint intelligence-led operation by the Upper East Regional Police Command and the Ghana Armed Forces has resulted in the death of a wanted suspect in the Binduri District.
The security operation also led to the recovery of an AK-47 assault rifle loaded with 28 rounds of live 7.62×39mm ammunition.
According to the Police Administration, the raid was conducted following a recent increase in shooting incidents and other firearm-related offences within the district.
Police identified the deceased as 32-year-old Isaka Sabani, popularly known as “Culture.”
Sabani reportedly sustained serious gunshot wounds during the security operation and later died from his injuries. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary police inquiries revealed that Sabani was already on the wanted list in connection with an alleged attempted murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
That case was reported at the Bawku Police Station on August 28, 2026.
Authorities also linked the suspect to several violent attacks recorded in the Binduri area between August 29 and August 31, 2026.
The incidents reportedly occurred at the district’s Agenda 111 hospital construction site and within the Aniisi and Gumyoko communities.
The Upper East Regional Police Command said investigations were continuing to identify and arrest other individuals suspected of being connected to the recent attacks.
Joint police and military patrols have also been intensified across the Bawku and Binduri operational areas to prevent further violence and protect residents.
The security agencies appealed to the public to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist officers in apprehending other suspects and recovering illegally possessed firearms.
