An eight-month-old baby boy who was allegedly abducted from Kpando Market in the Volta Region has been rescued safely in the Oti Region, leading to the arrest of a woman in connection with the incident.

The suspect, identified as Stella Amedzorgbe, is alleged to have abducted the infant on July 16, 2026, after reportedly deceiving the child’s mother at the busy market.

According to preliminary information, the suspect approached the mother under the guise of purchasing groundnuts and offered to carry the baby while the transaction was being completed. Investigators say she allegedly took advantage of the situation and fled with the child instead of returning him, prompting an immediate search after the baby was reported missing.

Following investigations, the infant was traced to Bowiri-Toviate in the Oti Region, where he was rescued unharmed. Police subsequently arrested Stella Amedzorgbe in connection with the alleged abduction.

The baby has since been reunited with his family, while police say investigations into the case are ongoing.
