President John Dramani Mahama has nominated the Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, to serve as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
The nomination was announced in a statement signed by the President’s Spokesperson and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
According to the statement, President Mahama, acting in accordance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution, has submitted Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’ name to Parliament for prior approval as a Minister of State.
If approved, she will take over the ministry, which has been without a substantive minister following the death of Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed in the helicopter crash in August 2025.
Her nomination marks a move from parliamentary oversight into direct executive responsibility for one of the government’s key policy areas, at a time when issues including environmental protection, sanitation, flooding, climate change and sustainable development remain high on the national agenda.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings is the daughter of former President and military leader Jerry John Rawlings. A medical doctor by profession, she has represented Klottey Korle in Parliament since 2017.
She obtained her medical qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and later pursued further studies in conflict, peace and security.
She also holds certificates in defence management; conflict and crisis management; women, peace and security; political advisory in peace support operations; and counter-terrorism.
During her time in Parliament, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings has served on the Environment, Science and Technology Committee, giving her experience in issues related to the portfolio she has now been nominated to lead.
She has also been involved in environmental advocacy and community-based initiatives, including efforts focused on flooding and sanitation.
