Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has announced her intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primary ahead of the 2028 general election.
Her announcement marks a reversal of her earlier plans to pursue professional and political opportunities outside the constituency.
Adwoa Safo explained that the decision followed consultations with party leaders and stakeholders. Those engagements influenced her renewed interest in representing Dome-Kwabenya and contributing to the NPP’s efforts to regain the parliamentary seat it lost in 2024.
She indicated that her immediate objective is to secure the party’s nomination. A successful primary bid would give her the opportunity to lead the NPP into the constituency’s parliamentary election in 2028.
However, she said the formal presentation of her candidacy would depend on the party’s electoral calendar. She intends to take that step once the NPP releases the timetable for its parliamentary primaries.
Reflecting on her previous service, Adwoa Safo highlighted her 12-year tenure as MP and the electoral support she received during that period. She cited an increase in her vote total from 63,373 in 2012 to 75,041 in 2020, a rise of 11,668 votes.
By pointing to those figures, she placed her past electoral performance at the center of her case for another opportunity to represent the party.
Her decision brings her political focus back to a constituency she represented for more than a decade. It also sets out a two-stage ambition: winning the confidence of NPP delegates before seeking the support of the wider electorate.
For now, her announcement establishes her intention to contest, with the next formal step awaiting the party’s primary timetable.
