The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has inaugurated six specialized committees to support its organizational rebuilding and preparations for the 2028 general elections.
The committees, made up of professionals, academics, business executives and experienced politicians, were sworn into office in Kumasi by the party’s Regional Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as Asanteman COKA.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the party’s internal structures, promote unity and intensify grassroots mobilization across the Ashanti Region, which has traditionally been one of the NPP’s strongest electoral bases.
Former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and former Bekwai MP Joseph Osei-Owusu was appointed chairman of the Disciplinary Committee, with Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare serving as secretary. The committee will enforce party rules, address internal disputes and promote discipline among members.
The Elections Committee will be chaired by former three-term Ashanti Regional Chairman Frederick Fredua Anto. He will be supported by Vice Chairman Yaw Amankwa and Secretary Owusu Kwabena Jnr. The committee will oversee electoral planning, internal election-related activities and campaign logistics.
Oppon Bio will lead the Finance Committee, with Ben Owusu serving as vice chairman and Lawrence Amankwah as secretary. Its responsibilities include fundraising, budgeting, financial planning and oversight of resources needed for the party’s activities.
The Professional Bodies Committee will be chaired by Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, former chief executive officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The committee has been tasked with strengthening the NPP’s relationship with professional associations, intellectual groups, businesses and corporate institutions.
Dr. Emmanuel Adu Amankwah will head the Research Committee, which will gather and analyze data, monitor policy developments and study voter trends to support evidence-based campaign planning.
The Youth and Campus Committee, chaired by Paul Sarbeng, will concentrate on mobilizing young people and expanding the activities of the Tertiary Students Confederacy Network of the NPP, commonly known as TESCON, across educational institutions.
Speaking on behalf of the committee chairpersons, Joseph Osei-Owusu said the party would work toward securing at least 80 per cent of the votes cast in the Ashanti Region during the 2028 elections.
He acknowledged that recent electoral changes required the NPP to rebuild relationships with its supporters, resolve internal grievances and increase direct engagement with communities.
The committees are expected to spearhead house-to-house campaigns, reconnect with dissatisfied members and strengthen cooperation among the party’s regional, constituency, electoral-area and polling-station structures.
