Atwima Kwanwoma NDC Delegates Invoke Antoa Over Alleged Register Manipulation

Some aggrieved National Democratic Congress (NDC) delegates in the Atwima Kwanwoma Constituency have invoked the Antoa Nyamaa river deity in protest against alleged changes to the party’s delegates’ register ahead of its internal elections.

The dispute, reported on October 24, 2026, centres on claims that the names of eligible delegates were removed from the register, commonly known as the delegates’ album, and replaced with individuals who do not qualify to vote.

The protesters allege that those responsible for compiling the album made the changes to favour particular candidates. These allegations remain unverified.

During the protest in the Ashanti Region constituency, the aggrieved members reportedly poured libation and slaughtered sheep while invoking Antoa Nyamaa and other river deities. They called for spiritual punishment against anyone involved in the alleged manipulation unless the disputed changes were corrected.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Gifty Kobbina expressed frustration over what the protesters consider an attempt to deny longstanding members a voice in choosing the party’s constituency leadership.

She said members had devoted time and resources to supporting the NDC and should not be excluded from the electoral process through unfair alterations to the register.

The group is demanding the restoration of names it says were wrongfully removed and the correction of the alleged irregularities before voting proceeds.

The protesters warned that leaving the dispute unresolved could undermine confidence in the election and deepen divisions within the constituency.

The information provided did not include a response from the party officials responsible for the register or establish whether a formal review of the complaints had begun.
