Ballot counting has begun at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi following the close of voting in the New Patriotic Party’s national executive elections.
Delegates cast their ballots during the party’s National Delegates Conference on Saturday, October 3, 2026, to choose officers who will lead its reorganization ahead of the 2028 general election.
An early Sunday update confirmed that the exercise had moved into the counting stage, with delegates and supporters awaiting the outcome of the contests.
Ahead of counting, police established a barricaded area for sorting and tallying ballots. Citi FM’s coverage also reported that counting had started at the North East and Bono regional voting centers within the conference venue.
The Electoral Commission is overseeing the elections under the supervision of the NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee.
Speaking before the polls, the party’s Director of Elections, Evans Nimako, said aspirants had received both provisional and final delegate registers and that accreditation had been completed. He maintained that organizers had followed the procedures required for a transparent election.
The conference is selecting officers for nine national positions as the NPP rebuilds following its defeat in the 2024 general election. The incoming leadership will be responsible for strengthening party organization and preparations for the next national polls.
The report announcing the start of counting did not include final results for the executive contests.
