Ghana’s Black Queens advanced to the third round of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers after defeating Mauritius 7-0 at the refurbished Essipong Stadium in Sekondi-Takoradi on Tuesday, October 13.
The emphatic victory completed a 10-0 aggregate triumph for Ghana, who had won the first leg 3-0 away from home.
Evelyn Badu opened the scoring in the ninth minute with a close-range finish, setting the tone for a dominant performance by the hosts. Portia Boakye and Ajegipina Zakaria added further goals before half-time to give Ghana a comfortable 3-0 lead.
Coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side maintained their attacking pressure after the interval, with substitute Benedicte Simon scoring the fourth goal in the 73rd minute.
Jennifer Cudjoe converted a penalty in the 86th minute before Nancy Amoh struck a powerful long-range effort. Mukarama Abdulai completed the scoring late in the game to round off the seven-goal victory.
Ghana finished the two-legged contest without conceding, keeping alive their hopes of reaching the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament for the first time.
The Black Queens will face Zambia in the third round, scheduled for February 2027, after the southern African side eliminated Uganda. The next tie represents another hurdle in Ghana’s bid to secure a place at the Los Angeles Games.
