The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have established a five-member committee to identify and recommend a new head coach for the Black Stars following Carlos Queiroz’s departure.

The other members are former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, former Ghana international and Professional Footballers Association of Ghana General Secretary Anthony Baffoe, high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah, and lawyer and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu.

The committee will identify potential candidates, assess their suitability and submit its recommendations to the GFA. Its report is expected by Friday, October 9, 2026, giving the panel a short period to complete its assignment.

The coaching position became vacant on Thursday, October 1. In its announcement, the GFA described Queiroz’s exit as a resignation following the September international window. Ghana Football Association

His departure came after Ghana lost its opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Black Stars suffered a 2–0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before losing 4–2 at home to The Gambia, leaving the team under pressure to revive its qualification campaign.

The GFA and the Sports Ministry have assured supporters that recruitment will be transparent and based on merit, with the aim of securing a competent coach for the national team’s upcoming assignments.

The association has also invited interested coaches to submit their applications and CVs as the search gets underway.
