The Confederation of African Football and its 54 member associations have reaffirmed their support for Gianni Infantino ahead of the 2027 FIFA presidential election.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe announced the position during the CAF Strategy Conference on Sal Island in Cape Verde on October 8, 2026.
“All 54 CAF Member Associations will support Gianni Infantino in the upcoming FIFA presidential election,” Motsepe said.
The endorsement gives Infantino a substantial base of support, with Africa accounting for 54 of FIFA’s 211 member associations.
Addressing the conference, Infantino highlighted investment in African football, saying the FIFA Forward program had provided US$1 billion for 124 development projects across the continent over the past decade. He also indicated that further support would follow.
CAF’s backing comes amid reported opposition from some European and North American associations following the abandonment of a proposal to sell commercial stakes in FIFA tournaments to private investors.
The presidential election is scheduled for the 77th FIFA Congress in Rabat, Morocco, on March 18, 2027, where member associations will decide who leads football’s world governing body.
