Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses secured a dramatic place in the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final after defeating host nation Morocco 3-1 in a penalty shootout.
The semi-final at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat remained goalless after 120 minutes of intense football, forcing the contest to be decided from the penalty spot.
Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina emerged as the hero after producing a series of decisive saves to end Morocco’s hopes of reaching another continental final on home soil.
The first major turning point came in the 118th minute when Morocco were awarded a penalty and given a golden opportunity to settle the match before the shootout.
Fatima Tagnaout stepped forward to take the kick, but Bihina read the attempt and made a crucial save to keep Cameroon in the competition.
The goalkeeper carried that momentum into the shootout, where she stopped three Moroccan penalties during an outstanding performance.
Cameroon converted three of their four attempts, with Marie Ngah, Rose Bella and Myriam Nyadjou all finding the net to complete the 3-1 shootout victory.
The result ended Cameroon’s poor history in WAFCON penalty shootouts. The Indomitable Lionesses had lost all three of their previous shootouts in the competition before finally breaking the unwanted record against Morocco.
For the hosts, the defeat ended their successful run in WAFCON semi-final shootouts, having won their previous two encounters decided on penalties.
Cameroon will now make their fourth appearance in a WAFCON final as they continue their pursuit of a first continental title.
They will face tournament debutants Malawi, who have produced a historic campaign by reaching the final in their first WAFCON appearance.
The championship match will bring together Cameroon’s experience and Malawi’s remarkable rise, with both teams seeking to lift the trophy and conclude the tournament with a landmark victory.
