Egypt Strike First
The Pharaohs made a bright start and broke the deadlock in the 13th minute. Emam Ashour rose highest inside the penalty area to power home a superb header after meeting an accurate cross from Karim Hafez, giving Egypt an early advantage.
Australia struggled to break down Egypt’s disciplined defense during the remainder of the first half but returned with renewed energy after the interval.
Australia Responds
The Socceroos drew level in the 55th minute in fortunate fashion. A dangerous cross from Aiden O’Neill was inadvertently turned into his own net by Egyptian defender Mohamed Hany, bringing Australia back into the contest at 1-1.
Both teams created opportunities during regulation time, but neither could find the decisive breakthrough as the match headed into extra time.
Extra-Time Drama
The additional 30 minutes produced plenty of tension and several close chances. Australian goalkeeper Patrick Beach delivered a series of outstanding saves to keep his side in the contest, frustrating Egypt’s attackers with a number of crucial interventions.

Mahmoud Saber, Ramy Rabia, Mohamed Salah, and Hossam Abdelmaguid all converted their penalties with confidence.
Australia saw successful efforts from Jackson Irvine and Awer Mabil, but misses from Harry Souttar and Lucas Herrington proved costly, allowing Egypt to secure a 4-2 shootout victory.
