Ghanaian-British engineer and technology entrepreneur Danny Manu is attracting international attention for developing wireless earbuds designed to help people communicate across language barriers.
Manu is the founder of Mymanu, a British audio technology company producing AI-powered devices that combine real-time translation with everyday functions such as listening to music and answering calls.
Through products including the Mymanu CLIK S, CLIK Pro and Orb, the company is competing in an audio technology market largely dominated by global brands such as Apple and Google.
Mymanu’s translation earbuds are designed primarily for travelers, international business professionals and other users who regularly communicate with people who speak different languages.
The CLIK S supports face-to-face and group translation in more than 37 languages. It connects to compatible Android and iOS devices and delivers translated speech to the user through the earbuds.
During a conversation, the technology captures spoken words and processes them through Mymanu’s translation system. The translated audio is then played in the listener’s chosen language, while the accompanying application can display the translated text.
The more advanced CLIK Pro was developed to support communication in more than 50 languages. Mymanu says its proprietary system combines translation technology with Wi-Fi and eSIM connectivity, helping users communicate in a variety of environments.
The platform uses artificial intelligence and language-processing technology to recognize speech and deliver translations with limited delay. Its purpose is to make multilingual conversations feel more natural than repeatedly typing sentences into a conventional translation application.
Beyond translation, the CLIK earbuds function as everyday wireless audio devices. Users can listen to music, answer telephone calls and receive notifications through the same hardware.
The CLIK S offers high-definition audio, multi-microphone call technology and up to 30 hours of use with its wireless charging case.
It also comes with memory-foam ear tips in different sizes to provide a secure and comfortable fit. Its sweat-resistant construction makes it suitable for travelling, exercise and other daily activities.
Mymanu’s work received international recognition when the CLIK Pro was named a 2024 CES Innovation Awards honoree in the Headphones and Personal Audio category.
The Consumer Technology Association highlighted the device’s translation capabilities, support for more than 50 languages and integration of high-fidelity sound technology with the aptX audio codec.
Mymanu later introduced Orb at CES 2025. Unlike conventional in-ear devices, Orb uses an open-ear design that allows users to remain aware of their surroundings while listening or communicating.
The device supports real-time translation in more than 40 languages, including translations during telephone calls and conversations on platforms such as WhatsApp and Zoom.
Its open design is intended to reduce the sense of isolation associated with traditional earbuds. Users can continue hearing traffic, public announcements and other environmental sounds while accessing translated audio.
Orb can also function as a standard audio device for music, podcasts, videos and regular calls. Its combination of translation and situational awareness is aimed particularly at travelers, commuters, cyclists and professionals participating in international conversations.
Manu’s work represents a notable achievement for a Black founder operating in Britain’s highly competitive consumer hardware industry, where developing physical technology often requires significant investment in research, manufacturing and distribution.
Through Mymanu, he is seeking to demonstrate how audio technology can improve human connection without separating users from the people and environments around them.
