MobileMoney Fintech Limited has opened applications for the maiden edition of the MoMo Fintech Lab, a nationwide program created to identify, develop and accelerate Ghana’s next generation of financial technology innovators.
Students, software developers, entrepreneurs, startups and other innovators with ideas capable of addressing financial challenges are invited to apply before September 30, 2026.
Applications are free and may be submitted by individuals or teams through the MoMo App.
Building Ghana’s Next Generation of Fintech Solutions
The program was officially launched on August 12, 2026, at the Accra Marriott Hotel in partnership with the Bank of Ghana and other organizations within the country’s financial technology ecosystem.
Operating under the theme “Build with MoMo” and the tagline “Build the Next Wave of Fintech,” the initiative seeks to help participants transform promising ideas into practical, scalable and commercially viable products.
The Lab will connect selected innovators with regulators, financial institutions, technology companies, investors, universities and innovation hubs.
It is also expected to strengthen Ghana’s fintech talent pipeline and encourage the development of locally created solutions that improve financial inclusion, support businesses and enhance the safety of digital transactions.
Four Innovation Tracks Available
Applicants must submit ideas that fall under at least one of the program’s four focus areas.
1. Everyday Payments and Financial Access
This track focuses on solutions that make everyday financial transactions easier, faster and more accessible.
Ideas could address challenges involving person-to-person transfers, bill payments, remittances, savings, credit access or financial services for underserved communities.
2. Business and Merchant Growth Tools
Applicants selecting this category are expected to develop products that help businesses operate more effectively.
Solutions may include payment tools, digital bookkeeping systems, inventory management platforms, merchant analytics, access to business financing or services that help small enterprises reach more customers.
3. Trust, Security and Digital Identity
This track concentrates on strengthening confidence and safety within the digital financial system.
Innovators may propose solutions addressing fraud prevention, customer verification, cybersecurity, digital identity, transaction monitoring or consumer protection.
4. Future Finance and Connected Ecosystems
The fourth category is designed for emerging technologies and ideas capable of shaping the future of financial services.
These may include solutions involving artificial intelligence, connected devices, embedded finance, open financial systems or platforms linking financial services with industries such as transport, agriculture, health and education.
Finalists to Receive Cash and Technical Support
Twelve finalist teams will be selected to participate in the next stage of the program.
The finalists will receive a support package that includes cash awards, digital devices, mentorship, bootcamp training, hackathons, incubation assistance and exposure to major industry stakeholders.
The overall winner could receive up to GH¢100,000.
Participants will also have an opportunity to refine their business models, strengthen their technical solutions and receive guidance on regulatory and commercial requirements.
The program will culminate in a National Demo Day, where finalists will present their products to representatives from the financial, technology and investment sectors.
