Mahama Approves Increase in Prison Feeding Grant

Prisoners-in-Nsawam

President John Dramani Mahama has approved a significant upward adjustment in the daily feeding grant for prisoners, raising it from GH¢1.80 to GH¢5.00.

The move, according to government, is intended to enhance the welfare of inmates and ensure they are provided with adequate and nutritious meals amid rising food costs.

Announcing the increase, the Director General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, said the decision reflects government’s commitment to upholding the dignity and well-being of prisoners.

She noted that the previous allocation had become insufficient, making it increasingly difficult to meet nutritional standards. The revised grant, she added, will ease the pressure on prison authorities and improve living conditions for inmates across the country.
