The Adenta Circuit Court has granted GH¢60,000 bail to businessman Kwaku Duah after he pleaded not guilty to defrauding by false pretenses in a case involving alleged visa arrangements for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Duah, a resident of East Legon Hills, is accused of obtaining US$3,000 and GH¢20,600 in cash and goods from a colleague on the promise of securing United States and Canadian visas.
According to the prosecution, the goods included vehicle spare parts, such as brake drums and tires. Duah allegedly claimed he could arrange the visas through the National Sports Authority.
The prosecution said investigations by the Adenta Police established that Duah had no affiliation with the authority and that no visa interviews had been scheduled for the complainant. Police also reportedly recovered the complainant’s passport from him upon his arrest.
Presiding judge Mrs Angela Attachie granted Duah bail with two sureties, one of whom must be justified with landed property.
The court further ordered him to surrender his passport to the court registry as part of the conditions for his release.
The case has been adjourned to February 17, 2027.
