President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday, October 8, 2026, commissioned an expanded evaporated milk production line at Nestlé Ghana’s Tema factory, increasing its annual production capacity from approximately 12,960 tones to nearly 30,000 tones.
Nestlé describes the new line as the largest of its kind in Africa. The investment replaces equipment that had operated at the factory for more than three decades and could no longer accommodate further production growth.
Nestlé Ghana Managing Director Salomé Azevedo said the new machinery can produce up to 500,000 cans of milk daily, significantly strengthening the factory’s manufacturing capabilities.
The facility carries out filling, homogenization, sterilization and packaging in Ghana, with Ghanaians making up the majority of its workforce.
Speaking at the commissioning, President Mahama described the multimillion-dollar expansion as a practical example of his administration’s 24-Hour Economy initiative.
He explained that the policy seeks to extend productive activity, make fuller use of manufacturing equipment and create employment opportunities while increasing Ghana’s ability to produce goods for domestic consumption.
Mahama linked Nestlé’s investment to broader efforts to revitalize Tema’s industrial base. He pointed to the expanded Tema Port and the revival of the Volta Aluminum Company (VALCO) as important components of that ambition.
According to the President, private-sector investments of this nature, supported by industrial infrastructure, demonstrate the potential for Tema to regain its prominence as a manufacturing center.
The expanded production line marks a substantial increase in Nestlé Ghana’s processing capacity and supports the government’s push for stronger domestic manufacturing.
