The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Ghana, has launched the Africa Virtual Asset Summit (AVAS) 2026, bringing regulators, policymakers and industry players together to discuss the future of digital assets across the continent.
The two-day summit will take place on November 2 and 3, 2026, at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra. It will focus on developing a trusted digital asset market that supports innovation while protecting investors.
A key objective is the proposed Accra Declaration, which will set out shared principles and recommendations for responsible tokenization and virtual asset development in Africa. Participants are also expected to explore closer cooperation on licensing, supervision and cross-border market rules.
The summit comes as Ghana develops its regulatory framework for the sector through the Virtual Asset Service Providers Act and a sandbox that allows businesses to test digital financial products under regulatory supervision.
Discussions will cover real-world asset tokenization, including the digital representation of interests in gold, cocoa and real estate. Other areas of attention include stablecoins, cybersecurity, investor protection and measures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
Through workshops and panel discussions, the event aims to strengthen engagement between public authorities, technology developers and market operators. Organisers hope these exchanges will support practical policy proposals and partnerships that help African markets respond to the opportunities and risks associated with digital assets.
