American rapper Cardi B has spoken out against bullying following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian student Javits Frimpong in the Bronx, New York.
Speaking during an Instagram Live broadcast, the Bronx-born artist expressed heartbreak over the teenager’s death and raised concerns about the treatment of immigrant and foreign-born children in schools.
Frimpong, a student at DreamYard Preparatory School, moved from Ghana to the United States in 2025 to live with his father. He was reportedly chased and shot in the stomach while walking to school on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026.
Father Raises Bullying Concerns
His father, Thomas Frimpong, said his son had repeatedly complained about being bullied at school. He believes the shooting may have been retaliation after two students were suspended following a bullying complaint.
The alleged connection to bullying has not been established as the motive. Police are searching for three teenage suspects.
Cardi B Calls for Kindness and Parental Responsibility
Cardi B said children who arrive from other countries can face harassment because of their accents, backgrounds or unfamiliarity with American culture. She said bullying can come from different groups, including people within the students’ own communities.
Reflecting on her upbringing, she also warned that repeated harassment can push vulnerable young people to seek protection and acceptance through gangs.
The rapper expressed concern about school safety, saying she would not enroll her children in New York public schools or raise them in violent neighborhoods. She suggested that families considering a move to the East Coast explore alternatives such as Pennsylvania.
She also urged parents to take complaints about their children’s behavior seriously and teach them kindness, respect and compassion.
