Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has expressed sorrow over the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong in the Bronx, New York, and called for greater attention to parenting and the values taught to children.
Javits was shot on Thursday, October 29, 2026, while walking to school near Crotona Park. He had moved from Ghana to the United States about a year earlier to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong.
In a social media post, Sarkodie, whose real name is Michael Owusu Addo, extended his condolences to the teenager’s family, particularly his parents.
The rapper said the killing had raised concerns for him about violence involving young people. He urged some Black parents living abroad to “do better” in raising their children and instilling good values.
Sarkodie also reflected on his upbringing in Ghana, saying that despite the challenges facing the country, he remained proud of the values many children were taught.
Father Raises Bullying Concerns
Javits’ father has described his son as a quiet and well-behaved boy. He said Javits had experienced bullying at school and expressed concern that it may have been connected to the shooting.
Police have not confirmed a link between the reported bullying and the killing. Investigators are seeking three teenage suspects, and no arrests had been announced as of October 31.
Ghana Pledges Support
The Ghanaian government has pledged to support the family and work with United States authorities as investigations continue.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said he had spoken with Javits’ father and assured him of Ghana’s commitment to pursuing justice and providing support to the family.
American rapper A Boogie Wit da Hoodie has also paid tribute to Javits as members of the Ghanaian and Bronx communities mourn the teenager’s death.
