According to reports from multiple media outlets, including ABC News, TMZ, and Rolling Stone, the incident began after another inmate allegedly insulted and taunted the 56-year-old rapper and entrepreneur. The verbal exchange reportedly escalated into a brief physical confrontation.
Sources familiar with the incident said both inmates exchanged shoves, punches, and other blows before correctional officers quickly intervened to break up the fight. Reports indicated that Combs was able to defend himself during the altercation before prison staff restored order.
Following the incident, Combs was removed from the general prison population and transferred to the Special Housing Unit (SHU), commonly referred to as solitary confinement or “the hole,” pending further review.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons has not commented on the reported incident, citing privacy and security policies that prevent officials from discussing inmate housing assignments or disciplinary matters.
It remains unclear how long Combs will remain in the Special Housing Unit or whether the altercation will lead to additional disciplinary sanctions. It is also uncertain whether the incident could affect the good-conduct credits that previously reduced his sentence.
Combs is currently projected to be released in February 2028. However, prison disciplinary actions can, in some cases, impact an inmate’s eligibility for sentence reductions earned through good behavior.
The hip-hop executive has been incarcerated since his July 2025 conviction on two federal counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He is serving his sentence at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal correctional facility in New Jersey.
