Ghanaian singer and songwriter Sista Afia says determination, faith and a refusal to abandon her ambitions have sustained her through the challenges of building a music career.
In an interview published by Pulse Ghana on October 8, 2026, the singer, born Francisca Gawugah, reflected on the sacrifices involved in leaving familiar surroundings to pursue her passion.
“I never gave up on myself,” she said, describing a journey marked by uncertainty, personal sacrifice and persistence.
The Jeje hitmaker said she does not regret her choices, explaining that difficult experiences have taught her valuable lessons and contributed to her development.
She identified clear goals and consistent effort as important to her progress, particularly in a competitive industry where female performers face additional challenges.
Faith also remains central to her life. Sista Afia described prayer as a source of comfort that helps her manage pressure and find emotional relief.
Although she appreciates the recognition and opportunities that major awards can bring, she does not consider them the only measure of achievement.
Asked to sum up her career, she chose “resilience, growth, and impact”—qualities that reflect her determination to keep developing and make a lasting contribution through music.
