The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into the conduct of a female police officer who was captured in a viral video kicking a civilian’s mobile phone during an altercation at a police station.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 5, 2026, and signed by ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, the Police Command confirmed that the officer involved has been identified and that internal disciplinary procedures have begun to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
What Happened?
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Akomadan Afrancho Police Station in the Ashanti Region.
According to accounts circulating alongside the viral video, a complainant visited the station to file an official report but allegedly found the officer at the front desk occupied with her mobile phone instead of attending to him.
Feeling ignored, the man began recording the interaction on his smartphone.
The situation quickly escalated after the officer noticed she was being filmed. In the video, she is seen confronting the complainant before kicking his phone to the ground. Reports also allege that she threatened to strike him with a stone during the confrontation.
The footage has since attracted widespread attention on social media, with many Ghanaians calling for disciplinary action.
Police Confirm Internal Investigation
Responding to the public reaction, the Ashanti North Regional Police Command assured the public that the matter is being treated seriously.
The Command stated that investigators are working to establish the facts surrounding the incident and indicated that appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is completed.
Officials urged the public to remain calm and allow the disciplinary process to run its course.
Recording Police Officers
The incident has also reignited public discussion about citizens’ rights to record interactions with law enforcement officers.
Under Ghanaian law and the operational guidelines of the Ghana Police Service, members of the public are generally permitted to record police officers carrying out their duties in public places or at police stations, provided the recording does not obstruct police work or interfere with ongoing operations.

The Ghana Police Service has not yet announced the outcome of its internal inquiry or any disciplinary measures against the officer.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has, however, assured the public that appropriate action will be taken if the investigation finds that professional standards or service regulations were breached.
