Burkina Faso Launches Massive 8-Hectare SN-BRAFASO Brewery and Beverage Plant

Abla Gomashie

Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, has called for a nationwide push to promote made-in-Ghana foods as part of efforts to strengthen local industries and celebrate national identity.

Speaking during Heritage Month 2026, the Minister outlined a vision of expanding local food celebrations across all 16 regions of Ghana, encouraging citizens to actively support domestic producers and businesses. She emphasized that increasing patronage of locally made products would help stimulate economic growth and revitalize the country’s internal market.

According to her, supporting local foods and products has far-reaching economic benefits, including job creation, increased business activity, and higher tax revenues that can be reinvested into national infrastructure such as roads and water systems. She also noted that a stronger local economy can help families sustain livelihoods and enable more students to remain in school.

Beyond economics, the Minister highlighted the cultural significance of Ghanaian cuisine and traditional products, stressing that the country’s identity is deeply rooted in its food, fashion, and craftsmanship. She pointed to iconic elements such as fufu served in earthenware bowls, raffia hats, and handmade mats as symbols of heritage that require active support from consumers.

During the event, Gomashie sampled a variety of local dishes and beverages, using the opportunity to encourage Ghanaians not only to promote but also to consume locally produced goods. She also commended media organizations for their role in advancing the initiative and helping bridge the gap between policy and practical implementation.

The celebration, held at the Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, forms part of Heritage Month activities aimed at preserving and promoting Ghana’s rich culinary traditions while fostering a renewed sense of national pride.
