Ghanaian nationals living in Qatar issued an urgent security advisory

Ghana Embassy

The Embassy of Ghana in Doha has issued an urgent security advisory to Ghanaian nationals living in Qatar following reports of missile attacks affecting areas near the capital, Doha.

In the advisory released on February 28, 2026, the embassy urged all Ghanaians in the country to remain indoors and take immediate shelter until further notice due to the heightened security situation. Citizens were also advised to avoid military sites, sensitive installations, and crowded public areas to reduce their exposure to potential danger.

The mission further recommended that residents keep adequate supplies of food, water, and essential medications in case movement restrictions or emergency conditions arise.

In a follow-up directive issued on March 2, 2026, the embassy instructed all Ghanaian nationals in Qatar—including students, workers, and visitors—to register their details with the mission immediately. According to the embassy, the registration is intended to help officials communicate quickly with citizens and coordinate possible evacuation plans if the situation worsens.

The advisory comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East following coordinated military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28, 2026. The attacks have reportedly triggered retaliatory missile and drone operations targeting several Gulf countries, with some impacts reported near airports and diplomatic areas in the region.

Several international missions have also issued similar warnings. The United States Embassy in Doha and other diplomatic missions have authorized the departure of non-emergency personnel while advising their citizens to shelter in place.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana has already evacuated its embassy staff from Iran as a precautionary measure.

Ghanaians in Qatar are encouraged to follow only official updates from the embassy and remain in contact through the mission’s emergency phone lines or email channels for further guidance.
