The Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly has issued a final notice to traders occupying unauthorised spaces at Kasoa New Market to relocate as it moves to reduce congestion and improve safety.
The directive covers pavements, buffer zones, the lorry park and sections of the road.
Municipal Chief Executive Seth Sabah Serwornoo-Banini said culvert and drainage construction had narrowed the available road space, while trading activities were worsening delays, particularly on Tuesdays and Fridays.
He said journeys from Kasoa to Ofaakor that normally took under 15 minutes could stretch to two hours. Pedestrians were also being forced into traffic, exposing them to danger.

The assembly had consulted traders and market associations and marked boundaries for trading activities. Although some vendors had complied, others remained in the affected areas.
Serwornoo-Banini said traders had been granted “a couple of weeks” following an intervention by the area’s Member of Parliament. He stressed that the exercise sought to restore public access while allowing traders to continue operating in designated market spaces.
A 1.2-kilometre bypass from the Colomba area to Datus is also under construction to ease pressure on the main road.
