Manchester City Sweat on Semenyo Fitness After Ipswich Victory

Semenyo

Manchester City are awaiting an assessment of Antoine Semenyo after the Ghana international limped off the pitch following their 3-2 Premier League victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday, October 17, 2026.

Semenyo replaced Jeremy Doku in the 77th minute but appeared to be in discomfort at the final whistle, raising concerns over his availability for City’s upcoming Champions League encounter with AEK Athens on Tuesday, October 20.

Manager Enzo Maresca indicated after the match that Semenyo’s condition required further assessment. The precise nature and severity of the injury have yet to be confirmed.

The forward was among several City players who experienced fitness concerns during the match, with Erling Haaland, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly also drawing attention.

Maresca offered reassurance over Haaland, Kovacic and Nunes, indicating that their problems did not appear serious. O’Reilly, meanwhile, continues to be monitored over a recurring back complaint that has troubled him over the past month.

Semenyo’s situation remained less certain, leaving City waiting for further information before determining whether he can feature against AEK Athens. The Ghanaian had completed full matches in City’s previous outings before being used as a second-half substitute against Ipswich.

The fitness concerns overshadowed a hard-fought victory secured through a goal from Phil Foden and a brace from Haaland.

Foden put City ahead in the 19th minute, but Daizen Maeda equalized two minutes later. Haaland restored the hosts’ advantage in the 34th minute before adding his second in the 69th.

Zian Flemming converted a 90th-minute penalty to reduce the deficit, but City held on to claim all three points. Attention now turns to Semenyo’s recovery as the club prepares for its next European assignment.
