New Coalition Seeks Stronger Youth Role in Ghana’s Peace and Security Decisions

Youth Inclusion Key To Ghana’s Peace And Security Agenda

More than 30 youth-led and youth-focused civil society organizations have joined forces to strengthen young people’s involvement in Ghana’s peacebuilding and security decisions.

The Ghana Civil Society Coalition on Youth, Peace and Security is calling for young people to be recognised as leaders and partners whose contributions help shape national priorities.

National Coordinator Issah Toha Samsoo said young peacebuilders were already making important contributions but often lacked funding and access to decision-making platforms. He urged civil society organizations to invest in youth leadership and provide meaningful opportunities to influence policy.

The coalition was launched during a two-day Knowledge Exchange Forum in Accra on October 6–7, 2026.

Representing the National Youth Authority, Archiebald Donkoh Jnr emphasized that peace includes the security and stability young people need to work, develop their abilities and pursue opportunities.

Participants also called for stronger collaboration among government, civil society and development partners, alongside protection for the civic spaces in which young peacebuilders operate.

The launch comes as Ghana’s first National Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security nears completion. Stakeholders stressed that effective implementation would require coordination, accountable institutions and sustained support for youth participation.
