
The National Media Commission has appointed new governing boards for Ghana’s four state-owned media organizations.
The affected institutions are the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Ghana News Agency and New Times Corporation.
The appointments were announced in a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, and signed by the NMC’s Acting Executive Secretary, Paula Sanziri.
According to the Commission, the appointments were made in consultation with the President, in accordance with Article 168 of Ghana’s Constitution and relevant provisions of the National Media Commission Act, 1993 (Act 449).
The managing directors of the four organizations will also serve on their respective boards.
Prof. Samuel Kweku Hayford Chairs GCGL Board
Educationist and University of Education, Winneba professor Samuel Kweku Hayford has been appointed chairman of the Graphic Communications Group Limited board.
He will lead a team comprising professionals from different sectors.

The board will be responsible for providing strategic direction and overseeing the operations of the state-owned publishing company.
Francis Mills Robertson Appointed GBC Board Chairman
Management consultant Francis Mills Robertson has been selected to chair the governing board of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

Nathaniel Leslie Lomo-Mainoo is a marketing communications professional, while Prof. Abena Animwaa Yeboah-Banin is an associate professor in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Ghana.
The board is expected to guide GBC in fulfilling its public-service broadcasting mandate across television, radio and digital platforms.
Dr. Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow Leads GNA Board
Journalist, academic and former GBC Director-General Dr. Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow has been appointed chairman of the Ghana News Agency board.
He will work with seven other members, including the agency’s managing director.
The GNA board is composed of:

- Dr. Moshie-Dayan Ahiamenyo

Vance Azu previously served as Night Editor at the Daily Graphic.
The new board will oversee the operations and strategic development of the national wire service, which supplies news to media organizations and other subscribers across Ghana and beyond.
Dr. Charity Binka Chairs New Times Board
Veteran journalist, entrepreneur and trainer Dr. Charity Binka has been appointed chairperson of the New Times Corporation board.

Naana Aklerh Amenyah Kubi I is a queenmother and media executive.
The board will provide corporate oversight and strategic leadership for the corporation, which publishes the Ghanaian Times and The Spectator newspapers.
Boards Expected to Strengthen Public Media
The reconstitution of the four boards forms part of the NMC’s constitutional responsibility to protect the independence of state-owned media while ensuring that the organizations operate professionally and serve the public interest.
The newly appointed members will be expected to provide strategic direction, promote accountability and support the long-term development of their respective institutions.
Their appointments come as Ghana’s state-owned media organizations face increasing pressure to modernize operations, improve financial sustainability and compete effectively in a rapidly changing digital media environment.
