President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Market in Juapong in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region as part of efforts to boost local trade, create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
The sod-cutting ceremony formed part of the President’s two-day #ResettingGhana tour of the Volta Region.
Addressing residents and stakeholders at the event, President Mahama said the market would serve as a modern commercial hub designed to support farmers, traders, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises in the district.
He explained that the facility would offer more than just trading spaces, incorporating infrastructure for storage, processing, packaging, distribution, digital commerce and access to financial services to improve business operations and market access.
According to the President, the project is a key component of the government’s strategy to strengthen local economies by providing modern commercial infrastructure that will enable businesses to expand and create new economic opportunities.
President Mahama noted that the 24-Hour Economy Model Market would enhance productivity, strengthen agricultural and commercial value chains, and generate sustainable employment for residents of Juapong and neighbouring communities, contributing to the region’s overall economic development.
