Rehabilitation work has begun on the McCarthy–Mallam Junction stretch of the Accra–Cape Coast Highway following persistent complaints about deep potholes and lengthy traffic delays.
Construction crews and equipment were on site on Sunday, October 25, 2026, carrying out repairs along the busy corridor used by commuters travelling between Accra and Kasoa.
The deteriorating road surface has forced motorists to slow down, creating bottlenecks and worsening congestion on a route that serves thousands of road users daily.
The commencement of work follows a formal petition submitted on October 19 by the Member of Parliament for Weija-Gbawe, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza.
In the petition, the MP requested urgent intervention on the Weija Junction-to-Mallam section to address the poor conditions and the difficulties facing motorists.
Residents and regular users of the highway have welcomed the start of the rehabilitation, expressing relief on social media after enduring repeated delays.
The repairs are expected to improve the road surface and ease traffic bottlenecks along the affected stretch.
