Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has announced plans to distribute 10,000 sewing machines free of charge to women and vulnerable young people across Ghana.
The initiative, being undertaken in partnership with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Program (NEIP), is intended to help recipients start or expand businesses in dressmaking, tailoring and other parts of the garment industry. Vocational training graduates, school dropouts, widows and orphans are among those the program aims to support.

Agongo said the idea grew out of his travels across Ghana, where he met people struggling to earn a living despite having the determination to work. Providing a sewing machine, he said, could give someone the equipment needed to begin earning an income without first taking out a loan. He described the initiative as non-partisan and said it was designed to give people across the country a fair opportunity to benefit.
According to Class FM, interested applicants have been directed to Agongo’s official social media pages to obtain an application form, complete it and return it through the stated channel. The report says applicants will then wait to be contacted by the distribution team. The machines are free, and applicants should check the official instructions before submitting personal information.
The partners have announced a target of 10,000 machines nationwide. Details of the distribution timetable and how many machines have reached recipients have not been provided in the cited announcements.
