Three suspects have been remanded in police custody over the alleged killing of Nana Yaw Kyere, a 33-year-old mobile phone dealer whose partially burnt body was recovered at Community 18.
Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams and Josiah Obodai appeared before the Teshie District Court on Monday, September 28, 2026. The case was adjourned to October 16, 2026.
Police allege that Kyere, known among traders at Kwame Nkrumah Circle’s Tip Toe Lane as “Dinero” or “Terry”, was lured to a rented residence at Teshie Agbleza, assaulted and subsequently left without medical assistance.
According to investigators, Adams had been communicating with Kyere before arranging for him to visit the property. While there, he reportedly sent WhatsApp messages and his live location to a close friend, indicating that he believed he had been set up. Police said those messages were later deleted from his phone.
Investigators allege that Tefe confronted Kyere at the residence and struck him on the head with a metallic object. The injured trader was reportedly moved into another room, where he was left unattended and later died.
Police further allege that the suspects transported his body in a Kia Morning to a bushy location near the Tema Motorway and set it on fire in an attempt to conceal evidence.
Passersby subsequently discovered the partially burnt remains at Community 18. Kyere’s mother and uncle identified his body at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24.
The trader had been reported missing on September 22 after leaving his residence at Kokomlemle. Investigations by the Police Missing Persons Unit led to the arrests.
As part of the inquiry, police said they recovered Kyere’s iPhone 12, which Tefe allegedly sold for GH¢100. The buyer, identified as Sunday Omeje, was also detained on suspicion of dishonestly receiving stolen goods.
The Kia Morning allegedly used to transport the body has been impounded.
The allegations against the suspects remain subject to court proceedings, with investigations continuing ahead of their next appearance.
