Volta Police Recover Firearms and Suspected Cannabis in Two Separate Arrests

Police arrest two suspects over alleged illegal firearms

Two suspects are in police custody following separate operations by the Volta North Regional Police Command into alleged death threats, unlawful possession of firearms and cannabis cultivation.

The operations involved local police officers and Marine Police personnel, who recovered three firearms, cartridges and quantities of substances suspected to be cannabis.

Police arrested Saviour Dzadze at the Kpando Circuit Court premises after receiving a complaint alleging that he had threatened someone with death.

According to police, subsequent investigations led officers to premises linked to the suspect at Alavanyo-Dzogbedze. A search reportedly uncovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, a single-barrel gun, cartridges and suspected cannabis.

Police said Dzadze claimed during questioning that he had obtained the AK-47 by exchanging cannabis for it.

In the second operation, Marine Police apprehended Vincent Lotsu, 31, at Mangoase in the Central Tongu District following a raid on a fenced plantation along the Volta Lake.

Officers suspected that cannabis was being cultivated at the site and also retrieved 16 sacks of dried leaves believed to be the substance.

Both men remain in custody pending further investigations and arraignment. The suspected cannabis is awaiting forensic examination.

Volta North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Amening Oduro, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling illegal firearms and drug trafficking, saying enforcement operations would continue.
