World Bank Forecasts 4.4% Growth for Morocco Despite Regional Downturn

Morocco’s 2026 economic growth

Morocco’s economy is projected to expand by 4.4 per cent in 2026, with agriculture, tourism, public investment and exports helping sustain growth despite mounting regional pressures.

The World Bank’s latest outlook places Morocco ahead of the broader Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan region, where economic activity is expected to contract this year.

According to the bank’s October economic update, regional output is forecast to decline by 2.1 per cent in 2026, following growth of 3.3 per cent in 2025.

The report attributes the deterioration to the economic consequences of the conflict that began in February. Disruption through the Strait of Hormuz has imposed particularly heavy costs on Gulf oil exporters, limiting their ability to benefit from higher energy prices as they have during previous shocks.

Morocco’s more diversified economy has helped it withstand those pressures. Agricultural recovery, tourism activity and export industries are supporting output, while public investment provides additional momentum.

Infrastructure development ahead of the country’s co-hosting of the 2030 FIFA World Cup forms part of the wider investment drive, alongside efforts to strengthen transport links and expand capacity for visitors.

However, the positive forecast does not mean Morocco is insulated from external risks. Regional instability and disruption to international trade remain concerns for the economic outlook.

The World Bank’s assessment also highlights challenges affecting the next phase of growth, including limited business adoption of artificial intelligence and gaps in regulation. Addressing those constraints will be important as Morocco seeks to translate its resilience into sustained productivity gains.
