Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that she repeatedly rejected lucrative political and commercial offers because accepting them would have required her to compromise her principles.
Speaking on an episode of the Afropolitan podcast, the award-winning actress said some of the opportunities could have made her a billionaire. She maintained, however, that protecting her integrity and public advocacy was more important than financial enrichment.
Jalade-Ekeinde explained that many of the proposals were not necessarily illegal or openly harmful. However, she believed they could weaken her convictions, affect her credibility and gradually dilute the message she had spent years building.
She disclosed that she had sometimes been presented with opportunities that could have remained secret, making it possible for her to accept the benefits without attracting public attention. Despite that possibility, she chose to walk away.
“If I wanted to be a billionaire, I would have been one easily,” she said, adding that she had declined offers on numerous occasions, including those connected to politics.
The actress admitted that some proposals were tempting because they did not initially appear harmful. She nevertheless rejected them after considering their possible long-term impact on her beliefs and reputation.
According to Jalade-Ekeinde, compromising for immediate financial gain would ultimately have weakened the credibility of her public message. She said maintaining peace of mind and remaining faithful to her values outweighed the prospect of receiving substantial payments.
Her remarks highlighted the personal and professional choices public figures sometimes face when commercial opportunities or political associations conflict with their established values.
