Ghanaian media personality Serwaa Amihere has encouraged women to dress within their means and embrace second-hand clothing rather than buy counterfeit designer products to project an image of wealth.
Speaking at The Complete Ignite Woman session on October 25, 2026, Amihere urged women to resist pressure to follow expensive fashion trends before they can comfortably afford them.
Drawing on her own experience, she recalled visiting Accra’s Kantamanto Market with her sister as early as 4 a.m. Their early arrival allowed them to select stylish pieces when traders opened fresh bales of clothing.
“If you go to Kantamanto, you’ll find very nice things early in the morning, 4 a.m. We’ve gone there before… Even when you wear it, nobody will know that this thing is thrift, but who cares? You’re rocking it very nicely,” she said.
Amihere argued that looking fashionable does not require luxury labels. She encouraged women to consider quality second-hand clothing or more affordable brands such as Zara, Aldo and Primark.
She also cautioned against purchasing imitation Hermès Birkin and Louis Vuitton bags, saying attempts to appear wealthy through counterfeit products could undermine the impression wearers hope to create. People familiar with the original items, she noted, may readily recognise the difference.
Her broader message centered on patience and financial growth. Amihere explained that her ability to buy authentic luxury products developed over years of professional progress, rather than happening at the start of her career.
She encouraged young women to allow themselves that same time to grow, choosing clothing that suits their budgets while building confidence in their personal style.
