The Member of Parliament for the Kadjebi-Akan Constituency in the Oti Region, Ing. Yao Gomado, has distributed mattresses and metal trunks to more than 600 first-year Senior High School students.
The initiative primarily supports students preparing to enter boarding school and is intended to reduce the cost of purchasing essential items listed in their school prospectuses.
Parents and guardians often face significant financial pressure during the admission period, particularly when they must purchase mattresses, trunks, uniforms and other boarding necessities within a limited time.
Through the intervention, the MP hopes to ensure that beneficiaries begin their secondary education with some of the essential materials required for school life.
Addressing the students, Ing. Gomado encouraged them to remain disciplined, take their studies seriously and make good use of the educational opportunities available to them.
He urged the beneficiaries to work towards becoming qualified professionals who could eventually return to the Kadjebi area and contribute to its development.
The MP expressed concern that several public service positions in the district, including teaching and nursing roles, are largely occupied by professionals posted from other parts of the country.
He therefore challenged the students to pursue careers that would enable them to fill such positions in the future and strengthen the district’s pool of skilled workers.
The distribution forms part of a broader educational support program being implemented across the Kadjebi-Akan Constituency.
Other interventions have included organizing mock Basic Education Certificate Examination exercises, distributing mathematical sets to candidates and rewarding students who distinguish themselves academically.
The initiative reflects continuing efforts to improve access to education, support families and motivate young people in the constituency to achieve academic excellence.
