Ghana’s Ambassador to China, Kojo Bonsu, has launched a youth-focused Artificial Intelligence (AI) talent development programme aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with the skills needed to develop technology solutions to address challenges in the country.
The China-Ghana Youth AI Talent Development Programme was launched during Ambassador Bonsu’s visit to Zhoukou, a major inland port and logistics hub in China.
The initiative is an expansion of the Ambassador’s Gen Z AI Club and is being implemented in partnership with Chinese technology company APUS Technology Co., Ltd.
As part of the programme, Zhoukou Normal University will provide dedicated AI courses and scholarships to selected Ghanaian students. The initiative is expected to deepen cooperation between Ghana and China beyond traditional areas such as trade and infrastructure, with greater emphasis on technology, skills development and youth innovation.
Speaking to students at the launch, Ambassador Bonsu highlighted Africa’s youthful population and the potential of young people to use technology to develop solutions to local challenges.
He said Africa has one of the youngest populations in the world and possesses a large pool of talent, creativity and potential that can be harnessed through the right opportunities.
According to him, the programme will give Ghanaian youth the opportunity to develop practical AI applications for important sectors of the economy.
Ambassador Bonsu encouraged the participants to approach the programme with a strong focus on learning, innovation and leadership, stressing the importance of using the knowledge acquired to create practical solutions.
The programme is also designed to connect AI training with employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
Under the one-year programme, APUS Technology is expected to provide outstanding students in both Ghana and China with opportunities for internships and employment contracts.
The opportunities will focus on developing AI solutions that respond to Ghana’s economic and social needs.
Participants will also be exposed to China’s growing technology ecosystem and gain practical experience that could support Ghana’s ongoing digital transformation.
The initiative is expected to create a pathway for young Ghanaians to acquire specialised skills in emerging technologies while contributing to solutions in areas such as agriculture, healthcare and education.
The programme forms part of broader efforts to place young people at the centre of Ghana’s engagement with China by promoting skills development, technology transfer, innovation and employment opportunities in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence.
