A dire shortage of pediatric dialysis machines and consumables at the Tamale Teaching Hospital has resulted in the tragic loss of 15 children. The unavailability of these crucial medical supplies has compelled healthcare professionals to resort to using adult machines, posing an extreme risk to the lives of vulnerable pediatric patients.

A source from the Tamale Teaching Hospital Dialysis Unit, conveyed a desperate plea for assistance. the hospital urgently called upon the government, individuals, and non-governmental organizations to intervene and provide the life-saving equipment and supplies that are critically needed.

“We have lost over 10 to 15 children who were supposed to receive dialysis. But for a lack of pediatric machines, we were improvising with the adult machines, and the adult machines and consumables are not for children.” Emphasis was made on the devastating consequences of this shortage, affecting not only the children who lost their lives but also their families, who must endure unimaginable pain.
