2024 Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Annual Meeting

Abena Osei-Asare, Minister of State, will lead Ghana’s delegation to the 2024 Africa Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Annual Meetings and the 3rd African-Caribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2024) in Nassau, Bahamas, from June 12th to 15th, 2024.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM), themed “Owning Our Destiny: Economic Prosperity on the Platform of Global Africa,” will bring together over a thousand delegates, including leaders and senior officials from Africa and the Caribbean, policymakers, corporate executives, bankers, entrepreneurs, academics, and other thought leaders.

Ghana currently chairs the Shareholders and Advisory Group, and Minister Osei-Asare will preside over the shareholders meeting on Saturday, June 15th.

Madam Osei-Asare, who is also the MP for Atiwa East, will deliver opening remarks at the ceremony and the plenary session themed “Economic Transformation for Global Africa in a Polycrisis World.” Additionally, she will participate in a high-level policy dialogue session on “An Emergent Global Africa: A Platform for Sustainable Economic Transformation.”

The delegation will attend statutory meetings, bilateral discussions, seminars, and plenaries, including the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum.

Afreximbank’s support to Ghana’s public and private sectors stands at US$1.761 billion, with another US$1.706 billion in transactions under consideration.

Ghana is a founding member of Afreximbank, having signed and ratified the agreement establishing the Bank at its inception. The Bank of Ghana holds 3,645 Class “A” shares, representing 2.41% of the Bank’s total shareholding.

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is a pan-African multilateral trade finance institution established in 1993 under the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance and promote trade within and outside Africa. Owned by African governments, the AfDB, other African multilateral finance institutions, and African and non-African public and private investors, the Bank supports trade and project finance, sovereign loans, syndicated loans, guarantees, and advisory services.

Ghana hosted the 2023 Annual Meetings of the Bank, which attracted about three thousand delegates and included programs celebrating the Bank’s 30th anniversary.

For the first time, the 3rd edition of the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2024) is incorporated into the Afreximbank Annual Meetings. This program explores Global Africa as a platform for new opportunities in the Caribbean through African and global investments from the diaspora, with over 25 deals expected to be signed and new commercial and developmental initiatives to be announced.
